Sheila Clay

"Wise counseling helps people face themselves honestly. It helps them look in the only true mirror: What does God see in me?"

― David Powlison

My name is Sheila Clay, wife, mother of four children and grandmother of five grandchildren. I have been married for 42 years to Steve Clay, husband and partner in ministry.

The Lord called us into ministry shortly after the birth of our first son. As a consequence of that calling, we moved to the Dallas area in order to receive further education in the area of counseling. During my husband’s schooling, I remained at home with my children as we added to our numbers. Once my oldest became school age, I began homeschooling and continued to with all four of our children, while my husband attended Bible College and then Seminary.

During that time I was involved in The Criswell College wives ministry and then later Dallas Theological Seminary’s wives program, earning a certificate there. I have been involved in various ministries and have led Bible studies through my local churches. Working with single young adults and married adults were a part of our ministry opportunities at different times throughout our time in seminary training. However, my love for the word of God and people has led me to seek out further training, as I served in the areas of counseling and mentoring.

Prior to 2022, I had felt the need to gain more training in the area of biblical counseling so I entered ACBC’s certification process to become a certified biblical counselor. I completed that course in July of 2022. The Lord has given me a passion from the very beginning of my marriage to come alongside single and married women during the challenges of life and to disciple women, who have a desire to grow spiritually through mentoring.

Shortly after my husband and I began North Dallas Christian counseling in 2014, I began working at the counseling center in an administrative role. This is where I currently counsel and serve those who are in need to help, hope, and biblical soul care. I am thankful for the Lord’s guidance and direction as I see His sovereign hand in my life. My desire is for those that I meet with to experience the assurance of His love and care in their lives to know Jesus in a greater deeper way. Currently, we are members of Citizens Church in Plano and love being involved in our home group and practicing the one another’s of scripture in that context.
